No Excuses Workouts

OK, I admit that I usually don't think much of the workout segments featured on morning television; however, this segment featured on the Today Show this week has some excellent full-body moves that really engage the core. The moves don't require any equipment (you can use paper plates for the "slides") and only take about 15 minutes. And, come on, we can ALL find 15 minutes to do a few exercises at home or while traveling. No excuses friends.

This video segment is another great workout series you can do at home with just a pair of light dumbbells. As you get stronger you can increase the amount of weight you are using. Each move is a "compound" movement, meaning that you are working multiple muscle groups with each exercise. Compound movements are great because they elevate your heart rate and work several muscle groups at a time, increasing your calorie and fat-burn.

These workouts are great for those of you trapped at home with little ones or too busy to get to the gym between full-time jobs, family and busy social calendars. Find 15 or 20 minutes in your day and fire up one of these videos for some full-body strength training. You'll be glad you did.

Also, let's take a moment to give LifeWithLove a big shout-out. She is running a half-marathon this weekend and could use our support. You go girl!

Let's get to work friends, summer is fast approaching!

  1. Em: get a pair of 5 or 8lb dumbbells and do the second workout 2x/week. It's perfect for adding to all your running and you can do it in 20 min after you put the boys to bed.

Kel: this would work for you too on the mornings that Rob goes to the gym, before Lex wakes up. Do some of the "mountain climbers" in the first video to pepper in some more cardio.

G'Ma: I think you will like the core "slide" moves and "mountain climber" in the first video.

  3. Also, everyone should know that it is BLOWING snow and freezing here today (after a week of gorgeous blue skies and mild temps) so I will be doing the exercises in these videos when the babies go down for a nap. Monkee see, monkee do. Who's with me?

  4. LifewithLove - KICK major ass this weekend!!!! WHO-HOO!
Erin, can't watch the video now as I'm in a state government cubicle...I think people might get annoyed at me if they start hearing workout types on my computer, but will definitely fire it up at home. Can't wait! Paper plates to work out - sounds perfect. :-)

  5. Thanks ladies! I'm looking forward to it being over! ;) The race is called the Shamrock and here's the "blessing" my friend gave me for it: "May the wind be at your back, the sun shine on your face and your feet swiftly kick ass this weekend!!"

  7. GO LWL!!! I'm rooting for you!

thanks Erin, this is great, and will be perfect for mornings that Rob is at the gym. We have been lazy this week since getting back from vacation and with the time change, but we are getting back on track this weekend.

so, funny story - Rob says tonight that we are out of Kraft singles slices - you know, that yummy cheese that comes individually wrapped in plastic? I said, "I know. I'm not buying it anymore. We need to eat less processed foods." he says, "is this from Erin's blog again?" lol. Yes, it is, and WE'RE DOING IT SO GET OVER IT!
